Surname

January 08, 2016

I belong to a family with a very respectable surname but finding it rather funny to accept that if I am a true descendant of it because something doesn’t sit fit into the equation and since having the heart to search for it, I had rather not label is as unquestionable like everyone else did. So let’s turn the page onto the pretense that is called a “surname” in our society striking from the back of the dark web of beliefs in front of a glistering mirror reflecting the respect people get on its behalf.

There are three faults that I find in the naming system of our society:

  • Among all the 13 marriages, Prophet SAW never changed the name of any of his wives after Nikah as they were from before, neither have Hazarat Ali (R.A) or among the other caliphs. Surname is a houx that is to show the “possessions” of the males in our society.
  • If surname shows the true candor of our descendent, then why any of our family tree doesn’t match with the Siddiqui I am to the Siddiqui my neighbor is. Most probably he have forefathers to or he was ship here in Pakistan with a surname ?
  • If we are among the true decendents of Siddiqui, Farooqui, Usmani, Hussaini or even Syed how come why all of them were only found in Sub-continent? How come all of the Arabs have migrated to Indo-Pak?

“Nikah”(whichis sunnat) only has to do with Islam [the verbal announcement], but”Nikah Nama”does not have anything to do. because it is actually the legal documentation given by law for marriage. There are certain palaces in Peshawar still who have Nikah for mariages but not Nikah Nama.

In search for answer, upon studying the family tree of Hazarat Abu Bakr Siddiq, it shows that he had about four wives.

Qutaylah bint Abd-al-Uzza ibn ‘Abd ibn As’ad:

Had two children namely  “Asma bint Abu Bakr” and  “Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr

Umm Ruman bint Amir ibn Uwaymir ibn Zuhal ibn Dahman (fromBanu Kinanah: Had two children namely Abdul-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr and Aisha bint Abu Bakr

  • Abdul-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr had a Son “Abu Atiq Muhammad”
    1. Abdul-Rahman is the ancestor of many Albakri Al-Siddiqi families: the Al Atiqi found inKuwaitSaudi Arabia,YemenIraq, and Siddiquiand Quraishifamilies in SouthandCentral Asia. ( According to Wikipedia)
  • Aisha Bint Abu Bakar Married Prophet Muhammad SAW but had no child.

Asma bint Umays ibn Ma’ad ibn Taym al-Khath’amiyyah:

Had one son named “Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr”

Habibah bint Kharijah ibn Zayd ibn Abi Zuhayr (from the tribe of Banu al-Harith ibn al-Khazraj): had one daughter Umm khultum binAbu Bakr.

  • By Talha ibn Ubayd-Allah, Zakariyyah, she hadYusuf (who died in infancy) andA’isha
By Abdulrahman ibn Abdullah al-Makhzumi, Ibrahim al-Ahwal, Musa, Umm Humayd and Umm Uthman.

The point of giving the whole family history of Hazarat Abu Bakr Siddiq family here is to show that these were the actual authentic decenders of “Siddiq”, what I feel questionable is that “Did all of these migrated to indo-Pak”? Or they were so crazy driven into making “population” that just in few hundred years; thousands of Siddiqui or Farooqi or Usamani, Syed and Hussaini were born? And when in anyway their family tree doesn’t coincide with anyone?.

Truth is on the record internationally, it is openly released that the actual descendents of “ Hazarat Abu Bakr Siddiq” are located in LIBYA, they live and move with that protocol there, they were Arabs and hence they lived in that place.

SO question now is : Who are these Siddiqui? Farooqui or Syed, Usmani and Husssaini?

The secret behind the Surname is that when Islam came to Asia a long time ago, before it was under the rule of Hinduism to whom we are descendents, the learning point here is that like everywhere when Non- Muslim is converted into Islam, their name gets to be changed as well. So when our Hindu Precursors converted to Islam, they had to take up Muslim names for which they choose Siddiqui but not Siddiq, Farooqi but not Farooq, Usmani rather Usman, Hussaini but not Hussain – because reality is that it is not quantifiable that they are true descendent of them, yet to keep it different they added the “-i” in it.

Check it out all the above mentioned names, didn’t have direct name to Abu Bakr Siddiq, rather it shows step by step that “he is son of this, who is daughter of him and he is father of him.” There is whole projection of their ancestry in their name.

That’s the reason that changing surname after marriage has no equivalence in Islam, because it was not taken under by Prophet or the Caliphs themselves. This is mere a cultural norm and a belief to show the possession of a female, who is being sold out to her husband with the sheer of changing owner, a belief which was still forwarded from the Hindu precursors even after converting to Islam.

WHAT IS YOUR IDENTITY?

Note: As for Syed* surname; Arabs use the word Syed as in “Repectable” for male and “Syedana” for Female, as it is on record that when Indra Gandhi landed in Saudia Arabia, she was addressed as “Syedana” by the official receiving here. So did she started to belong to “Syed” family?.

i am surely not against the surname or that if dont support it, what i believe is that some people of it are truly decedent and some are not. What learning point here is that our Hindu ancestors when converted to Muslims, they took up surname so that their generations will be known as Muslims rather than Hindu  name.

This is a allegation that we are portraying something that is not truth.
